Hedya Sutherland started her violin journey just one year ago. I am so happy to feature her as my first Student of the Month as she continually impresses me with her diligent work ethic and superb practice record.

Hedya is seven years old and attends Grade 1 at Northside Christian College. She recently performed her violin at school to the delight of her classmates and teachers, and has since been invited to give a special performance of Christmas tunes at the end of Term 4. Hedya also loves to share her musical talent with her overseas family via Skype!

Besides playing the violin, dancing is another passion of Hedya’s. She attends Brisbane Academy of Dance where she studies both ballet and jazz dance. Hedya’s parents say that she is constantly in motion, dancing, whether at home or even in shopping centres. Sometimes she mimes playing the violin while she dances! Hedya’s mum teaches her the piano and she is currently preparing for an AMEB theory exam.

Hedya practices at least one hour every day (that’s right – no days off!), and sometimes more on weekends. Consequently, it is no surprise how well she plays the violin and how quickly she has progressed! Hedya really enjoyed attending Brisbane Suzuki Winter School this past June. I would like to acknowledge Hedya’s mum and dad for their dedication as Suzuki Parents, ensuring that Hedya never misses a practice, as well as providing her with rich experiences that the Suzuki community has to offer.

Please enjoy this quick video that I took of Hedya playing May Song during her lesson last week!
